It also gave us the chance to feel grateful for our families.<\/p>\n<p>As we&#8217;re all spending more time at home than ever before, it&#8217;s a great time to be reminded that for kids, homes can also be a unsafe space, without the appropriate measures in place.<\/p>\n<p>Stories like Kaden&#8217;s, mentioned below, reminds us that issues impacting children&#8217;s health doesn&#8217;t solely involve disease, but injuries and accidents too.<\/p>\n<p>In light of National Injury Prevention Day in July, our hospitals take the safety of every child seriously, including when they\u2019re at home. Did you know that most injuries to children less than 5 years of age, happen in the home?<\/p>\n<p>Our hospitals are dedicated to treating emergencies. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stollerykids.com\/stories\/featured-stories\/keeping-your-home-safe-for-young-childen-preventing-falls.aspx\">In a 2013 report<\/a>, over 13,000 Albertan children were seen in emergency departments for injuries from falls.<\/p>\n<p>Read more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stollerykids.com\/stories\/featured-stories\/keeping-your-home-safe-for-young-childen-preventing-falls.aspx%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>\u00a0to find out families can take actionable steps to ensure Canadian kids can have fun in safe spaces.<\/p>\n<p>On a sunny day in 2018, 9 year old Kaden was enjoying the May long weekend at the lake. His family stopped to fuel up his quad before taking it out for the day, when suddenly it burst on fire and engulfed him in flames. Miraculously, Kaden survived the fire and was airlifted to the Stollery Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Kaden is a charming and active 11-year-old burn survivor. While people do stare at his scarred skin, he takes the attention in stride and with a sense of humour, offering to answer any questions onlookers may have and even cracking a joke now and again. Kaden receives ongoing care at the Stollery and his parents are grateful to have the world-class children\u2019s hospital right in their backyard.<\/p>\n<p>Parachute\u2019s National Injury Prevention Day is a day to raise awareness around the importance of injury prevention and aid Canadians through education and advocacy.
