It’s vital to care for children and families
McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation, as part of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, is focused on raising funds in support of McMaster Children’s Hospital, including McMaster University Medical Centre and Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre.
The Foundation provides funding for vital equipment and patient amenities, innovative research initiatives, redevelopment of patient care spaces, and the education and training of health care providers. We provide the clinical teams with the tools and environments to do their best work when caring for children and their families.
Caring for the smallest babies
McMaster Children’s Hospital is home to the country’s largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The multidisciplinary team in the NICU provides expert care in such areas as, minimally-invasive surgery, nutrition, respiratory health, ophthalmology, social work, pastoral care and other specialty services.
Leading the way for mental health
McMaster Children’s Hospital is also home to the largest paediatric mental health program in Canada through its inpatient program and complementary outpatient programs including those at Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre. The specialists in paediatric mental health are working to erase the stigma associated with mental health and conducting ground-breaking research to deal with the root causes of some mental health issues.
Improving care for kids with cancer
When parents learn that their child has cancer, their entire world turns upside down. The team at McMaster Children’s Hospital is there every step of the way to help children and their parents deal with the physical and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis and its treatment.
To enhance the patient experience, McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation is fundraising to renovate and expand the third-floor oncology clinic. As part of the renovation, the in-house pharmacy will be upgraded to improve the delivery of chemotherapy. The clinical spaces will also be redeveloped to include distinct areas tailored to different age groups.
Supporting the care of paediatric cancer patients is particularly important given that McMaster Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in south-central Ontario that provides specialized cancer care for children.
Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre
As part of McMaster Children’s Hospital, Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre is home to a range of outpatient services focused on child rehabilitation and developmental health.
The Centre hosts Canada’s largest prosthetics and orthotics program, which serves both children and adults across the country. Other specialized programs include the Autism Spectrum Disorder Service, the Child and Youth Outpatient Mental Health Program, and the Developmental paediatrics and Rehabilitation Program.
The building itself was designed to provide a welcoming, nurturing space for patients and their families and has received awards for its unique design.
